SLFD Responds Mutual Aid to West Milford

Ringwood Fire Departments were dispatched mutual aid into West Milford to assist at the scene of a working structure fire on Lakeshore Road. While en route, fire units were re-routed to standby at Greenwood Lake Fire Company #3. While standing by at Company #3, Ringwood units were dispatched to a second possible structure fire on Yorkshire Avenue. Ringwood units were shortly returned after the fire was confirmed to be from a pool heater and was already knocked down. Ringwood Fire units stood-by for approximately 2.5 hours.

Passaic County Fire Academy Training

SLFD is headed to the Passaic County Fire Academy with members of the Erskine Lakes Volunteer Fire Company this morning to train in the burn building. Ringwood Borough Fire Company #1 (Stonetown) has their blanket drive this weekend – be sure to support them at the intersection of Greenwood Lake Turnpike (Rt. 511) and Skyline Drive!

SLFD vs. Wanaque FD Water Fight!

While at our weekly drill on June 19, 2014, SLFD was met by members of the Wanaque Borough Fire Department at the Monksville Reservoir south boat launch. We were not expecting to see them at our drill and we ended up in a departmental water fight! Members practiced our drafting skills while having a little fun at the same time. It was safe to say that not a single firefighter went home dry that evening!

SLFD Community Service Project

Members of the SLFD recently completed a community service project at the Skyline Lake Clubhouse. Members of the department designed and installed landscaping at the clubhouse and have completed the work. We hope you all enjoy the new landscaping at our community clubhouse!

Second Alarm Fire in Ringwood

At approximately 16:45 hours on May 30, 2014, all Ringwood Fire Departments and the Ringwood Ambulance Corps were dispatched to the CVS strip mall at 131 Skyline Drive for a report of fire in the walls. First arriving patrol on scene confirmed a smoke condition and small fire in the rear of the strip mall. First due Engine 251 was able to extinguish the fire quickly with minor extension to the building. A second alarm was called for manpower and assistance was received from West Milford Fire Companies 3 and 6 along with the Oakland and Wanaque Fire Departments. All units were clear of the scene at approximately 18:30 hours.

Fund Drive

Monksville Reservoir Incident

At 16:47 hrs on May 9, 2014, all Ringwood Fire Departments, Ringwood Ambulance Corps., and Ringwood Dive Team were dispatched to the Monksville Reservoir on a report of oil and bubbles surfacing in the water. Chief 260 first on scene established command and had the Dive Team proceed to check the water. After approximately 4 hours, no vehicle was found in the water as some initial reports have stated. The Passaic County Hazmat and Health Departments were on scene and the DEP was notified. For further information on this incident, please contact the Ringwood Police Department at 973-962-7017.

Ringwood MCI Drill

On the morning of May 4, 2014, SLFD participated in a multi-agency MCI (Mass Casualty Incident) drill at Hewitt School. This drill simulated a school bus v. dump truck accident. Some of the agencies that participated in this drill included: Erskine Lakes Volunteer Fire Company, Ringwood Borough Volunteer Fire Company #1, Ringwood Ambulance Corps., Ringwood Police Department, Ringwood OEM, Passaic County Sheriff's Department, Wayne First Aid Squad MCI Bus, West Milford First Aid Squad, Paramedics from Chilton Hospital and Saint Joseph's Hospital, and the Hackensack-1 Medevac Helicopter.

SLFD Responds Mutual Aid to Wanaque

At approximately 17:10 hours on the evening of April 24, 2014, members of SLFD responded to a mutual aid request from Wanaque to the scene of a brush fire off of Wuester Lane in Haskell. Arriving members went to work assisting the Wanaque Fire Department with what was still an active scene. An additional tanker was brought in from Ringwood Borough Volunteer Fire Company #1 for water supply. Good progress was made in a short period of time and the scene was eventually turned over to the NJ Forest Fire Service. All units were back in quarters around 7 PM. Responding members included Capt. Pellegrino, Lt. Wanamaker, Lt. Tredy, FF Everson, FF Brandt, FF Nelson, and FF Davis.
