Ringwood Fire Departments Respond Mutual Aid to Paterson City

""

Members of SLFD are currently assisting the City of Paterson Fire Department as acting Engine 6x standing by at their South Side firehouse. Paterson was battling a three alarm structure fire earlier followed by a few additional structure fires in the nearby area which were fed by the high winds.

As we assist the City of Paterson, we also remember the two Boston Firefighters who were tragically killed in the line of duty this afternoon battling a nine-alarm structure fire.

Bomb Threat

At 11:17 AM all Ringwood Fire Departments were dispatched to stand-by for a report of a bomb threat.

Issuance Date: February 25, 2014

Subject: Bomb Threat

Issuing Authority: DSgt Paul Rothlauf

Location and Date of Incident: Martin J. Ryerson Middle School, Valley Road, Ringwood, New Jersey.

On February 25, 2014 at about 11:17 am, the Ringwood Police Department was notified that there was a threat of a bomb in the school. Ringwood Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Officers secured the scene and assisted the school officials while they safely evacuated the children onto buses. The children were then transported to another school.

An investigation was conducted by the Ringwood Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, and it was determined that a juvenile student posted the threat on a wall in a bathroom. The parents took custody of the juvenile and the case has been referred to the Passaic County Family Court for a hearing.

The Passaic County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene using K-9s to search the school.

The name and identifying information of the juvenile will not be released because of the child’s age.

The Ringwood Police along with the Ringwood School District take this type of incident very seriously and put great effort into making sure that all of the children were moved and transported safely to another school. Parents whose children were affected by the incident were notified using the school notification system.
